Samenvatting

Los Angeles, de jaren '50. Ed Exley doet er alles aan om hogerop te komen, zolang het maar volgens de regels gebeurt. Bud White hanteert zijn eigen regels, maar problemen heeft om z'n woede onder controle te houden. Jack Vincennes vindt het onderhouden van zijn contacten in Hollywood minstens even belangrijk als het politiewerk. Na een brute schietpartij in een restaurant proberen deze drie agenten van het corrupte politiekorps achter de waarheid te komen.
