Samenvatting

Jimmy Rabitte krijgt het geniale idee om een soulband op te richten in zijn kleine dorpje boven Dublin. Ten eerste heeft hij musici en zangers nodig. Wanneer hij drie zangeressen, een zanger en een trompettist vindt begint het te lopen. Langzaam weten The Commitments zich op te werken naar de top. Interne strubbelingen brengen de toekomst van de band echter in gevaar.
